Soon, in June 2019, Savoy Palace Hotel in Funchal, Madeira Island, is going to open its doors to its first guests. The first wedding reception is going to be held there in just a month.
Savoy Palace will offer its guests numerous swimming pools, including an 80 metres long outdoor pool, rooftop infinity pools, 10 presidential suites with a private swimming pool and a luxurious, modern spa inspired by the Madeira Laurisilva forests…
Upon completion, Savoy Palace will be a luxurious, five-star resort catering to those seeking excellence and the most luxurious offerings. The first Leading Hotels of the World member will be a true game changer and will put the Portuguese Madeira on the map of luxury travel.
Savoy Palace *****
The Palace of Tomorrow and the Palace of Previous Days…
The hotel has been designed by the award-winning RH+ and Nini Andrade Silva, one of Portugal’s most famous interior designers, whose Design Centre you can visit in Funchal. This 16-story building overlooking Funchal and the Atlantic Ocean will be finished in a bold, modern but comfortable style with historical elements and inspired by the beauty of Madeira.
On the official website, Savoy Palace Hotel introduces itself to its worldwide guests as The Palace of Tomorrow and the Palace of Previous Days which summarizes the feel and vibe of the hotel perfectly.
In addition to the standard rooms, Savoy Palace will offer 43 apartments, of which 10 are suites with a private pool. There will be eight bars and multiple conference rooms. In addition to the stunning-view infinity pools on on both sides of the hotel roof, there will also be an amazing 80-meter outdoor pool in the hotel garden.
Premium Guests will have access to the separate, panoramic view area of the hotel, where they can experience a ’boutique-hotel-within-a-hotel’ atmosphere. The adult-guests-only Premium Lounge located on the western part of the hotel will have a cocktail bar, a jacuzzi and an infinity pool.
The true pride of Savoy Palace will be its large, luxurious spa, inspired by the Laurisilva forest (typical for Madeira UNESCO protected primary laurel forest).
Weddings at Savoy Palace
I am particularly excited about Savoy Palace as a wedding venue, catering to an entirely new group of destination wedding guest. Savoy Palace will offer multiple venue options for big size weddings and will be able to cater to the most demanding clients from all over the world.
The Grand Ballroom on floor 0 is able to host up to 1400 guests and is very multi-functional. If necessary, it can be divided into three smaller rooms. There will also be additional smaller size private rooms on the upper floors.
Hotel Savoy emphasizes that every wedding, no matter the size, is welcome and will receive the best service.
The Savoy hotel chain organizes yearly Open Doors events for engaged couples looking for the dream venue. This year, in the second half of 2019, Open Doors event will be organized in the new Savoy Palace.

Savoy Palace – May 2019 – pictures
We had a chance to visit the Savoy Palace Hotel construction site twice, in December 2018 and May 2019. While during the December visit, we had to use our imagination a lot, in May this year we already saw the emerging beauty of the hotel’s final design…
The hotel interiors are being finished as we speak, to be ready for its first guests arriving in the hotel in June 2019.
While entering the Savoy Palace gardens, although still under construction, we were already welcomed by a beautiful scent of lavender…

Swimming pools at Savoy Palace
The infinity pool on the west side of the Savoy Palace roof is ready, which is why we photographed it the most…
The pool on the east side with a view of the center of Funchal was not yet ready during our visit…
… just like the main garden pool.

Sea access at Savoy Palace
It was interesting to learn during our visit, that although Royal Savoy does not have a direct access to the ocean, the access is possible via another Savoy hotel (Royal Savoy) located nearby. The two Savoy hotels will be connected.

Savoy Palace – Not just a hotel…
Savoy Palace will be a true game changer. The city landscape will be changed – not only by the hotel but especially by the area around it.
One of the old streets next to Savoy Palace will be revamped and will turn into a luxury shopping street- the first one on Madeira. Another small street on the west will become a nightlife area with some bars. Great news for those looking for a great night out.
By catering to premium and luxury guests, Savoy Palace will change the typical Madeira tourist profile. It will open a new segment on the island and attract visitors looking for luxury options, who so far skipped Madeira altogether.
In the meantime, we are looking forward to the grand opening and the first weddings taking place at Savoy Palace.
Maybe our first couple booking a wedding will be you…?
