I recently published a post about the Saccharum Hotel Resort & Spa hotel in Calheta as a great place for your holidays. I described the hotel as a place with a soul; a beautiful theme, new and modern, interestingly located and perfect for couples.
For those who are looking for something more – a stunning venue for a wedding ceremony, wedding reception, anniversary or another event abroad, I have also prepared today’s post.
Saccharum Hotel as a wedding and event venue
If you are looking for a modern and elegant destination wedding venue, the Saccharum Resort & Spa will be a perfect place. The hotel can also host hen parties, stag parties, anniversaries and other events.
In the hotel, you will find many beautiful spaces for ceremonies, cocktails or wedding receptions, regardless of the type and size of the wedding. Many of these settings offer a great view and can be privatized for the couple and their guests.
Wedding areas and rooms at the Saccharum Hotel
Ceremonies, cocktail hours or wedding dinners and parties can be organized without additional fees, for example in:
– Gallery 1425 (ceremony and cocktail hour)
– Main Ballroom “Melaço” (suitable for larger events from about 40 to 200 guests)
– A private ocean view room “Olympic” (maximum 12 people)
– Clubroom (under 30 people)
For an additional fee you are also free to book:
– Beautiful Fly Bar on the 8th floor
– Trappiche Terrace; the“Sunset Area” (maximum 200 people) or the “Cliff Area” (maximum 40 guests).
– Terrace with a direct view of the ocean on the 2nd floor (more suitable for cocktails)
I would like to emphasize the possibility to privatize areas as a great advantage of the Saccharum. In some hotels privatization is not always an option. I know from my own experience that it is a very important point to be taken into consideration when choosing a venue.
My favourite setting is definitely the Fly Lounge on level 8, with its beautiful shade sails and sunset view. In the case of bad weather, the hotel will provide an emergency option indoor.
Cost of a wedding at the Saccharum
The hotel offers three fixed packages, but these are packages for weddings with a minimum of 70 guests. Most of the destination weddings organized by foreign visitors are small ceremonies and in this case, the hotel offers an à la carte service.
The couples can choose between many indoor and outdoor areas for ceremonies, drinks and dinners. The hotel weddings team is very flexible and a personalized offer can be created, tailored to the expectations and the budget of the couple. The price will depend on the number of guests, the selected menu and chosen area in the hotel as well as the date of the wedding. Knowing the couple’s wishes, the hotel will be able to provide the best offer.
If we have a limited budget but dream of getting married at the Saccharum Hotel, it is still worth contacting the hotel. The price can be lowered by choosing a different menu, or by moving the wedding date by only several weeks. The hotel has two price levels, depending on the season and is able to lower prices, depending on the date of the wedding. So if you are flexible about the date and have a certain budget, I recommend including this information in your first e-mail to the wedding planner.

“Wedding Open Doors” in Savoy hotels in Madeira
If you are planning a larger wedding or would prefer to visit the venues in person before choosing the perfect one, I have great news. The Savoy hotel chain organizes each year special “Open Door” events for couples. Unfortunately, we just missed the “Open Doors at the Saccharum Hotel” in the autumn of 2018 (the next one will take place in 2020), but a private tour is possible at any time.
In the second half of 2019, Savoy Group will organize “Open doors” for couples in the new Savoy Palace hotel in Funchal. During the event, apart from a tour of the hotel, you will have a chance to meet different wedding suppliers and participate in competitions, where you can win for example a dinner for two or an entry to the SPA.
